Forking ell.....

Post by callyboy » Thu Mar 03, 2011 6:37 pm

Need some advice please. Need to get my forks off as they need new seals. thought they were ok when i put them on, but they have been slowly weeping (bit like me really). Any suggestions on getting them off. dont have a centre stand.

Only thing i can think off is lifting the bike up onto a box or something and resting the sump on it. This would lift the forks up high enough to take the wheel off and take the forks out ????

Suggestions, comments, advice and piss takes welcome.

Pete

Hi Pete
Put the side stand down and pull back on the handle bars until the front wheel lifts off the ground and then stick a block of wood or jack or axle stand under the front right side of the frame.

Front wheel will now be off ground. Now push forwards against the block and level the bike off and stick an identicle block / jack / axle stand under the left front of the frame. Did this a few weeks ago all on my own on a Honda shadow.............and that was a big bike!

good luck!

Car jack worked a treat guys. forks off and ready for new seals. Bike is back in the garage cos the warmer weather is here - famous last words. Few more bits left - famous last words again :) Trying to get the rebuild going again. Lost interest and the will to live for a while :( Had a few personal issues which didnt help, but things are getting better so onward and upward.

Thanks again.
