S**t what have I done - 2 Strokes
Every year in spring I always get that 2 stroke twin longing (hang over from being a (student) teenager in the 80's) and this year I couldn't help myself and have just got a restored Suzuki GT200 X5 which isn't running now, but was. Ultrasonic cleaned carbs and there's sparks, (primary) compression is 130psi on both cylinders, but it won't go, not even a hint - bugger.
As there seems to be a lack of Suzuki 2 Stroke forums did anyone on here ever have one of these that they tinkered with? It is my first Suzuki stroker as all my teenage years bikes were RD's.
I pulled off the Magneto cover and about 150-200ml of engine oil came out as well which I wasn't expecting - I wanted to know if that is normal. The RD's I had were always sealed off so dry (I think anyway, it was a while ago).
Any help gratefully received.
Rob

Re: S**t what have I done - 2 Strokes
I am on Facebook so I'll check that out later. Plugs are wet. I got it with B8ES plugs in but bought some new BR8EIX Iradium ones in case and they spark and are wet.
I got it from a Clsssic Bike place cheaper as the guy went for a run on it and it was OK, but when he got back and left it a while it would not start. I has had an engine rebuild in the restoration but my worst case I guess (and it isn't going to get fixed this year!) is the seals and an engine strip down. I was hoping just carb issues but probably not! Hence asking about the oil in the magneto.
I will clean carbs one more time (got some new cleaning stuff) and try new petrol as used what was in the tank and not sure how long it had been in there.
There's just a lack of info out there (not like for Kats!). Haynes manual uses the X7 as the project bike, so there are differences that in the usual Haynes way gets ignored if it's important.
Cheers

Re: HT Leads - I thought about that. There's only one coil pack, so my guess is that is uses a lost spark (it's a CDI ignition) but the left hand lead goes to the lefthand plug and same for right side - they don't twist over so I think that is right.

I would swap the plugs for normal ones and see what happens. Have you checked the zorst is ok? Not blocked up with carbon (wild guess).

Good point on the plugs, I'll try the original ones (as they looked almost new) when I get the carbs back together after their 2nd clean. They did spark OK.
The zorst was new old stock and looks pretty clean.
Thanks for all suggestions so far.

Oil issue does sound like crank seals, especially if has been stood for a while, this would explain started fine but after it stopped it stopped so to speak.

Yep sounds like the crank seals are fooked if you have oil in the magneto casing!
And if that crank seal is fooked the centre crank seal will prob be fooked too.
Those Iridium plugs are Crap. IMO!
Fit the bog standard B8ES plugs that have been heated up on the gas ring.
Great bikes though!
I Love the sound of the Suzuki X5 with spannies fitted!

hang on, has it got reed valves? if so, make sure they are seating correctly, cos if they arent, it will never start in a million years as it wont draw through the carbs. if they are bent off their seats, take them off and flip them over.
