Maybe I state the obvious - you should put the new friction plates in oil over night before fitting them.

None of the bits i threw back in were new apart from the gasket. All the plates were 'pre-loved' and i made sure to check they were all a bit oily before installing.

WOOHOO! Success
The shifting was a bit clunky to begin with but it smoothed out once everything oiled up again and settled in. The clutch feels to grab sooner thanks to the heavier springs but theres no difference at the lever. I prefer for everything to be a bit tighter anyway (fnarf fnarf)
I only went for a short run but the headlight does not 'wink' anymore which might be a sign that the new regulator is correct and the battery is getting charged.
As for the heating issue i cleaned the strainer so it cant be bad for it. I will see how it feels after a longer ride.
So all good and shes back on the road
