Air filter choices.

Post by tomtom » Wed Sep 11, 2013 2:38 am

I am about to put 36mm gixer carbs on my 1170 Katana and need to get filters for them. I prefer using the single k&n style or foam ram air style for ease of use. However some people say that the twin style filters work best on these carbs. Any experiences would be greatly appreciated please folks. Thanks.

The Ramair's are probably the best for flow, but the twin style are fine for general use and I'd agree from what I've heard that the twin's are better (but I don't know why!!!).

However like all pod style filter's they can suffer in the damp/rain and can muck up your mixture and lead to poor running. Lots of people don't like pod filters but so long as you get the mixture right they're fine IMO.

CV carbs can be (but not always) difficult to set up with pods, however Johnr and many others swear by gixxer carbs especially on larger bore engines and if they say they're ok, then that's good enough for me.
