Kat 400 no spark
Hi all I've gone to try and start me second Kat 400 the one that I done a total strip down on to find no spark!
Any way buy checking coils, cdi so on and so on ( I have two so at least I can swap parts over to test just to be sure!!)
I've come down to the Trigger ( signal gen) in the engine!
First does any body know how to test these, I've checked the one I know works And I'm getting 99 ohms, but on the one I thinks faulty 0 ohms
Second on that side of the engine if I remove the casing will oil come out????
And Third does any body know where I can get one from Suzuki want £100

Thanks in advance
Si

Watcha Si, sounds exactly the same as my Impulse problem i had. It was indeed the signal generator.

I am pretty sure that oil will come out when you take the cover off - It did with mine :)
drain the oil and put it back after you swapped it over.

I tested mine the same as you have, and indeed no ohms is not a good sign. I had a spare for mine and it started up straight away after i swopped it over.

Not sure about a replacement, but i would imagine/hope it was used on other models. Have a look on ebay.

Good luck

be careful, check the numbers. there are a myriad of ignition boxes and whilst they might fit, they arent guaranteed to work. there is a part number on your cdi box, you need the same number on the replacement. iirc the gsxr 400 box isnt the same. ive just sold one to katman, and someone here bought a new replica one from japan that worked. trawl through the threads and see if you can find it. iirc it was less than 100 quid too!!

oh, hang on, right, its the pickups, somehow i managed to read it as the cdi being duff!! sorry, ok, there must be someone in the club with a set of pickups kicking about. i know for sure of 2 engines floating around between members, so there must be something available for less than 100 quid!!

Hey Si,
if it doesn't work mate try the company I dealt with in China. Lixianda Technologies, they have been great in my dealings with them, and mention being a member of the KOCUK but spell it not abreviate it mate. Hopefully the one you bought will do, but there are definate differences in the rate of ignition advance due to reciprocating mass of the GSXR crank being less. May well work in the Kat, but ignition advance would be notably wrong the other way round.
Good luck, fingers crossed

Hi, mate. In case your detail will not work I can give you (and all of you friends) an e-mail of one geeser in Japan. He is Russian but live and work in Japan for many years and is involved in bikes' spare part business. All you need is just send him an original part number. For example - an original Suzuki Kat airfilter costs in Japan 26$ (post not included). I don't know if it's expensive for you in UK or not, but for me it's cheap. If you need something just send me a PM.

Good luck anyway!
