lower crankcase damage
Hi, anyone know the best way to repair crankcases with a chunk missing? The lower crankcase on my 1100 project has a chunk missing just at the bottom of the ignition side as it has clearly been dropped at some point. I would say the missing part must be the size of a 10p approx.
Do I bend some ali and try and find a welder that can weld it in and dress it up? or do I buy a bottom crankcase, although from memory you have to buy pairs as I think they may be line bored?
Any ideas please

There's some DIY stuff called Lumi weld...............Google it!
Or take it to a local engineering/ fabrication firm and get them tAlloy weld /fill / repair it then just dress it with file, dremmel ,etc.........Make sure the electrics arnt connected or they can blow with the High voltage used on TIG welding.

chemical metal. its not a stressed area and not full of oil, just chemical metal and smooth it off before you paint it.

Re: lower crankcase damage
Thanks Bobster and Johnr. Wasn,t sure if a build up of weld might distort the cases? I had my efe cases welded a few years ago near to the clutch cover and it distorted the clutch gasket surface. Is there a way of not doing this?
Never used chemical weld, Is it easy to shape?

its just a 2 part epoxy. make sure everythings clean first. follow the instructions on the pack. dont fret too much, you can smooth it off with wet and dry afterwards!
