I've just read the factory manual on the gears, and it's about as clear as mud to me!

Best I enlist the services of somebody that knows what they are doing!

Just ridden it home from the MOT station, and I've observed that it's letting go bang on 3500rpm.

It's fine after that!

It's not kicking down to 1st, as it's there (with higher revs) when I change down.

I only hope to god 5th is ok... Else I'm in deep doo doo!

Well it would appear that only 2nd is affected!

5th is fine, and nice and quiet.

It actually feels as though it's kicking down to 1st as soon as the magic 3500rpm is hit, but 3rd is there straightaway.

There is a chap on the GS resource forum who has a good transmission who will sell and post anywhere in the US for $55. I've aked him for a quote to ship over here.

I'm still waiting :-( lol

likely to cost the same in post what it was to buy... heavy lil beasties aren't they, gearboxes ;)
