Pilot Screws, 32BS carb

Hi All,

The fuelling problems persist with the 650!

Stuck it into the local garage last week to have the carbs set up (I could only get close to the mark with my cheap vac guages) and he set the pilot screws.

What neither of us knew at the time was that the needle valves were shot on 1,3 & 4, and it was severely over rich.

Now I have that issue sorted, it pulls like a train at 3k rpm onwards, but on the transistion between the butterflies closing and the pilot system kicking in, something is wrong, and it cuts out as soon as the clutch is pulled in. I can get it to idle at a higher rpm by adjusting the throttle stop, but that doesn't do much for cooling when stuck in traffic.

Looking at the air screws, he has obviously adjusted them from what I initially set them at, as they are much higher up now.

Would I be right in thinking that up is lean, down is rich? After all, if it was running far too rich before, he would have leaned them out? And now the richness is resolved it's too lean to idle?

If that's the case, I'll take it back and get him to have another go at setting them (he only charged half hour labour to balance), as I want to get it running right.

All 4 plugs now have a greyish tinge to them, as opposed to the black soot before (only 2 was normal), so I'm confident that side is ok.

Your thoughts?

J
