which sprockets?

Post by BigLT » Thu Apr 07, 2011 10:32 am

I've got:

5.5'' rear wheel, Katana sprocket carrier, 1100 engine, 750 frame

I don't mind getting another sprocket carrier if needs be, but might as well use what I've got if I can.

I know I'll need an offset front sprocket, and its been suggested that I use a 17 tooth one as I'm using longer shocks. Also learnt I'll need a 530 chain.

What rear sprocket should I use, and how many teeth? To give more options, do sprockets from, say, GSXRs' fit the Kat sprocket carrier?

Thanks

Liam

Do you use a standard swinger or thicker, like gixxer or bandit?

I've got an aftermarket braced one - looks like a JMC.

Not too thick then. I'd recon a 49T rear blade.

Thanks, what difference does the thickness make? Is it due to chain clearance by the swingarm spindle?

Yes. If you use a Bandit or Gixxer swinger or similar, you'll even need bigger sprockets to avoid the chain sliding too much on the swinger arm. The longer shocks will also have a share in that effect.
