Have you fully charged the battery? after spinning the motor over trying to start the bike the battery may have lost some ooomph, its worth checking 'cos its happened to mine.

Have a look at the connectors ingition wise. Bet there's one gone loose.

As pookie says the water cooled range fitted with sealed for life batteries, won't start if hand battery is not tip top due to cdi settings.

I mean all the plugs in the loom ignitionwise, be it from the pointers or coils or cdi.

You're saying it wants to start but just not enough to run?

If so, that sounds like poor earth somewhere.

Late to the party here - but have any of the plug leads been disturbed?

Which coil feeds which cylinders?

I know the popup has one for 1 & 4 and the other for 2 & 3
I had 1 coil pack in but the bike still started and ticked over on 2 cylinders.

The 400 are prone to right coils going down, also cdi issues ,aswell as if the battery ampage not voltage is suspect the cdi won't allow it to start. Add in cut out switches on side stand. And clutch on some ......

This is before the fuel side .......which includes the choke cable not pulling the bar out all the way if it is not routed correctly.
