it would help if you told us where on the bike these wires were, headlight? under the tank? near the battery?

Near the battery John. Pretty much next to the solonoaid as the yellow with green stripe one goes to it. And i have now put the oil pressure wire into the yellow with green stripe.

have you connected the alternator up yet? has your wiring had the mod to re route the third phase from the alternator direct to the reg rec rather than through the headlight switch.

I have got 3 yellow wires from the alternator John. one going to a white with a blue stripe. another to a white with red stripe and the third to a green with a white stripe. I think the green with white stripe goes to the headlight switch? what do i need to do if it needs changing?

Join the yellow wires of the alternator to the reg rec none of which are straight red , this would be a live ignition wire. And frying tonight would be the order of the day.

Sorry. made a mistake Fossie. There is a red from the reg however and that is going to another red on the loom which looking at the wiring diagram goes to live ignition wire(like you said).

So the only thing i need to work out is what to do with the yellow wire that at the moment is going to the green with a white stripe wire(the one that goes to the right handlebar switch).

The easiest way is just take the 3 wires from alternator and 3 wires from reg/rec and join them .
Not red or black white obviously.

Unless your reg rec is Honda type .........does it have a green wire.?

Nope.

Yellow
White with red stripe
white with blue stripe
Red
Black with yellow(might be white)stripe

So.....3 yellows to yellow wire and the White with red stripe and white with blue stripe.

Black and yellow(might be white) stripe to Earth

And the red to the red ignition live
