indicator relay...

Post by callyboy » Fri May 08, 2015 6:18 pm

.....my indicators seem a little hesitant sometimes. Seem to slow down a bit then pick back up. Relay sounds quite clicky. Have cleaned up the contacts. Just wondering if this was a common problem and if the relay is just on its last legs and should i get a new one? still available?

Thanks

Pete

indicator problems are caused by 2 things, first, bad earths, and second, the wrong wattage of bulbs. indicator relays from the kats era are thermal, they close, and get hot, and that pops them back open, but if the bulb wattage is wrong, if you put led bulbs in, or small indicators with small bulbs, then it will affect the way the relay works, either flashing too fast or too slow or not at all. if its the speed of flash thats altering then it would suggest a connection thats got resistance that changes the longer they are switched on, meaning, you guessed it 'CHECK YOUR EARTHS' .

Indicator relays are fairly generic and will have either 2 or 3 pins.

Replacement will only be a few pounds if it comes to that
