Well I adjusted the air screws to 1.5 from 1.25 as suggested and started her up at the weekend (after a week of just sitting there) and it was much better strangely. Once warmed I took it for a spin locally on some country roads (no T&T yet) and it seemd to work more or less OK - I'd say about 90% there, but I need to get it MOTed and taxed and a longer spin to see if it truely is better.

It is running rich I think low down as not much choke needed at all to start and keep going until it warmed up plus a quick throttle blat tended to "bog" it down to start with before it picked up.

My thought at the moment is that last week when trying it with new O Rings in the carbs they hadn't had time to swell up in the fuel and bed in so bad running and left over the week they have got to "working" size and hence it ran better. (Could explain bad running on 400's when left for a period of time and fuel evapourates out and O Rings shrink back to original size?)

Anyway the front wheel's off now as it goes flat over the week so is with someone to try and clean the rims and refit plus new valve (the last tax disk ended June 2010 which is when I think it was last on the road) .

Then hopefully T&T and some fun!

Have fun with that! The cleaning I'm Ok with, it's the getting them off on on I hate. You have pod filters though don't you, which I guess in easier to get on but more time in the setup?

I did see your other posting about leaking carbs and O Rings. The one year I drained the 1100 carbs over winter they leaked after priming, left a day and all OK. So now I leave them with fuel in!

FYI - I am replacing my Ultrasonic Cleaner so have the existing one for sale which is this one - http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/jpl-8050-h-pr ... -25l-a74jk. Just going for the next one up with degas and fancied a change. I have only used for the 400 carbs, X5 Carbs, lawn mower carb and the KoC 750 project front brakes.

Was thinking of about £42 posted to club member. I will post in the For sale section once the new one arrives but just saying now as you mentioned your carbs, just in case...

So I like the 400 carbs again now! It's dead easy to take the float bowls off without having to remove the carbs and also a take off point for float height checking. So it was easy to take those off and this time take apart the float assembly and clean the needle valve (some blue hymer found in one!) which I didn't do beforehand. Used some Silicone grease on O-Rings to get them to seat back in easily (as been in petrol they has swelled up) and got all float heights correct. Also finally found in manual air screw is a 1 3/4 tuns out.
So to today went out on my first real spin (about 25 miles) and have to say I like the bike a lot on the back roads, handles really well. Think the carbs are as good as they are gooing to get without new jets / needles etc as you don't know what someone has done to them before (after seeing all the Blue Hymer on them it could be anything). So at the moment I am a happy camper :-)
