Speedo Drive Info Needed (1100 but same as most GS of era)
Well I have found the issue with my Speedo that stopped on the way back from Belgium last weekend - it was the drive in the front wheel:
The rubber thingy behind the drive plate has disintegrated, which allowed the drive plate to move back (away from the wheel) and hence not driven anymore. Initially I thought that I had put on wrong - if you look at the side view of the drive plate it is curved and the "tangs" are not 90 degree to it. It still is probably my fault as I think I may of got a bit to OCD on cleaning as there was grease in there but not loads of it. I think suddenly doing 240 miles was a shock to it!
However I (luckily) got a spare on the set of forks I bought last year and the drive plate on that also is slightly curved with tangs greater than 90 degrees to surface:
I have straightened this so the plate is flat and tangs at 90 degrees (thinking it had been bent) but now I am not so sure - is it meant to be that way?
Does anyone else a spare they can check for me and let me know. If it is that way I'll have to bend back again! This time I will pack with grease...
Cheers
Rob

a spare i have looks curved too... no ideas if they come new like that or it naturally happens over time given its design though...

Thanks Steve. Given that's the 3rd one now that looks "bent" I think it's probably meant to look like that. Not sure why that would be though. The rubber seal thingy behind it would touch in 2 places which would change as the wheel turns - maybe it helps keep the surfaces greased?
I'll have to bend my spare back again or obtain another one I think. I'll post again if I need one.

I think it should be flat..............they get bent by people not lining the tangs up when fitting the front wheels. The bike will go faster too.........less drag1

Cheers Bob, I think you are probably right, but strange that of 3 so far checked all are bent! I think I'll leave the straight one, straight.

yep, ive bought a new one before now, theyre flat, but folks put the speedo drive on and dont line up the tangs and then tighten the spindle and the drive washer bends. they should be flat with the tangs at 90 degrees.

Cheers for confirmation. I will assume mine was bent by previous owner...
