really? who are these people crying out for a new katana? ive never met any, does anyone here think that a new katana would have them beating a path to a dealers door, cash in hand? anyone?
i remember when the japs were going power crazy, gsxr's, zzr's cbr's etc were all hiking the power up and up, fuel injection, traction control, anti lock, every manufacturer was playing with new tech, and thee bike media sais, 'lets have something simple, easy to fix, cheap to buy and run, reliable, good handling and not too powerful, hey, what we need is a decent single cylinder bike with brit style and jap reliability and power delivery, it will sell in millions, so the japanese built the xbr and the srx and europe gave us the bmw singles and the aprillia moto6.5, and what did the media say 'gutless, not as fast as a four, boring.' the bike buying public went out and bought yet more cbr600s and gsxrs. a new katana wouldnt appeal to the katana fan, because its not a propper katana, and the modern bike fan would look and think, 'it looks like an old bike' people just wouldnt buy it. of course, i may well be wrong, it has been known,,,,, cant remember when mind....

I just assumed a new katana would sell like the proverbial hot cake, every time i go to a bikers haunt near me in surrey (newlands corner, box hill) there are loads of Harleys and new Triumphs (Triumph even cover the new bikes fuel injectors with fake plastic carb bodies to look 'nostalgic'!) almost all the bikers there are over fifty years old and even think my 250 kat is an 1100, and what constitutes a 'proper' katana? my 250 kat was built in 1993 but looks like an 1100sz from 1981 (if you're slightly myopic, and need to squint to look 
) but it's water cooled, has modern, decent brakes and wide, grippy tyres, the wheels are actually wider than the original 1100's, if you see some of the videos of the recursion concept from the 2013 tokyo motor show on you tube those japaneezer geezers are falling over each other to get to the front for a better look P.s if a new katana looked anything like the Recursion and had a 600/800cc inline four and around 100bhp i have just been given some free shares at work that would be cashed in asap

Ferk all that new concept shite i will stick with me old Katana's, more appealing and almost just how i want them for now

The katana is not a bike it is a specific designed shape, immediately recognisable.
The Fiat 500 sold so well because it was a modern take on a recognisable design like wise Mini , like. Vw beetle. HOWEVER ....once they cornered the market the ethos was lost a the next generation had lardy arses etc and looked sod all like the original......this would and will happen to a relaunched Katana.
