1000 intake cam confusion

Post by katanatom » Sat Jul 22, 2017 12:58 pm

Hi all!

Having a clear out of all my Katana bits, as I sadly no longer own one (sob, sniffle), and I found a NOS cam.
I bought only one cam ever, from Pip Higham about 15 years ago when he was having a clear out.

I bought it on the understanding that it was for a UK spec 1982 1000 Katana, however the part number on the wrapper is 12711-31300 which is apparently for a 1983 GSX750E. With now having nothing to compare it to, how can I tell whether the wrapper is the wrong one and I have a Kat 1000 cam, or whether it is indeed a GSX750E cam... or are they in fact the same item any way??

Any ideas?

cheers.

check the alphasports website. if theres a kat 1000 microfiche on there, you should be able to get the part number

Yeah, that's where I got the info regarding the part number coming from the 750E.

alphasports lists the 1000 cam as 12700-49810
the 1100 cam is listed as 12700-45810 but the 750 cam is also listed as part number 12700/45810 so 750 and 1100 share the same cam.
interestingly the part number for the gs1100e/es is 12700/49810 meaning the 1135cce engines use the kat 1000 cam, which is interesting as a common mod for the 1075 engine was to fit th e cams, which are it seems thee same as the kat 1000.
your cam however does seem to be the cam from a 750 esd, i cant find another model of suzuki that runs that cam.

I might just do that.
I phoned him by accident not so long ago, just talking with someone about drag racing in the old days, I mentioned his name, and my phone must have heard it and dialled without me noticing. Been in my contacts since buying stuff off him eons ago,

I could hear "Helloooo, hellooooooo..." In my pocket.

Oooops.
