GSX vs GS
Just an idle musing really....
But am I right in thinking that the GSX1100 and GS1000 crankcases have the same mounting points?

Re: GSX vs GS
yes, but there isnt much interchangable, but if you were wondering, yes, a gs1000 engine will more or less drop into a kat frame.

Cheers John,
was more along the lines of engine supports for doing a strip down and rebuild

Re: GSX vs GS
bottom end is pretty much the same, not interchangable, but its all from the same family and shares common mechanical dna. there are a couple of tips you can use to improve things, obviously rebuild the clutch basket, the gs started the long running comedy series of 'wanky suzuki clutches' if theres any movement at all between backplate and basket, then reebuild it. next, the gs 750 oil pump gears will provide the same improvement in oil flow on the gs as the will on the gsx motor. next, if you are splitting the cases, then dont forget to add an extra detent spring to the selector, using two springs is a common tip for ensuring positive gearchanges at high revs and preventing missed gears. other than that, theres the same starter clutch issues as the gsx, so keep an eye on that to check they arent coming through their casing. and check the 3 allen bolts on the flywheel arent coming loose. theres a gs1000 engine in a kat frame in the oss site history but i cant reemember whos it was, one of the admins i think. looked fab too.

Re: GSX vs GS
Cheers John. Useful info. I have a GS110X engine sitting in the shed that needs to be cleaned up as the cases are really grubby, but also needs to have the seals checked as they have almost certainly hardened up by now.
Not sure of which way I am going to do this, but first I have to get my Speed Trip sorted (it started with an MOT Advisory of play in the rear suspension linkage) with it’s rear suspension, brakes, front suspension, brakes and ever expanding plastic fuel tank.........

Re: GSX vs GS
Its the ethanol in regular unleaded fuel that makes the tank swell, if you put super unleaded in it has little or no ethanol (apparently Esso supreme has no ethanol)

That's right, Unless I'm going to do a full tank on the Kat i always use the Esso Premium unleaded from my local filling station(I don't have to take my helmet off and can get Tesco's points as well) and, touch wood, the Kat seems to accept the enforced hibernation periods dictated by my job without any complaints.
But as they say I found this out just in time to be too late for the Speed Trip.

Re: GSX vs GS
I've been using Esso supreme since early last year, I used to drain the floatbowls and brim the tank as well as adding fuel stabalizer before resting the bike up for winter, but this year I left it for over two months with a full tank of super unleaded and it started with the second prod on the button! was very pleased
