And so it begins!

Finished putting the cylinder head together today all done & dusted.
Painted the castings with some silver bar-b-q paint so it should be heat proof? New SS exhaust studs with over size brass nuts finishes it off.
Next job is to re-ring the pistons an fit the barrels. Watch this channel 8-)

I bought the studs as they have a hex drive in the end to make inserting them a doddle but i made the nuts in the lathe from some hexagonal bar I had.

I'm looking at doing the same as have to take the exhaust off as removing sump and checking oil strainer.

Where did you get the studs with the socket end Paul? Bike has an Eagle like Blix's as well, so my guess is that I'll need about 55mm long, what length did you use Blix to save reinventing the wheel?
I could do with some of those brass nuts as well and don't mind buying the materials, but given you're in the middle of a rebuild you probably don't want to take time to make more up.
Is there a place you can buy them? They need to be fine don't they, I can find course but not fine.

Uncle bob I got the studs here:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3743352056
Give me a couple of weeks & I’ll knock a set of brass nuts up for you.
I don’t want paying as I’ve had information, cheap parts, manuals on cd and even the loan of Poppy all free & gratis so it’s my way of putting back into the club.

Well I’ve been cracking on today. Rings all fitted, sump off and cleaned with no nasty surprises just a little sludge. Strainer the same so I’ll bolt the sump back on with a new gasket & O ring and call it a day 8-)

Well I’ve been getting stuck in today, I’ve manage to get the barrels on but I’ve had to do it the old fashioned way with my finger nails as the bloody ring compressors proved too awkward to use
Hopefully I’ll get the head on and get it all timed up in the evenings after work and she should run this weekend. Fingers crossed

Well despite the delay (I’m basically lazy you see  ) I’ve got the head on after a massive cock up! I was reading the manual to see how the front chain tensioner fits when I noticed a pic showing O rings between the liners and barrels, I remember buying the four O rings but bugger if I remember fitting them
So it was off with the barrels yet again only to find four shiny new O rings sat in place  better safe than sorry though eh?
After another struggle fitting the barrels the head is now on and waiting to fit and time up the camshafts.

Well another few hours today and a bit further forward.
Head torqued up, cams fitted & timed up. Cam chain tensioner fitted and adjusted. It took me a while to figure out how to get the front tensioner blade into the chain tunnel before I realised it goes in BEFORE the head is fitted  next job is to set the valve clearances before putting the top on and then struggling to fit the carbs and airbox etc.
I’m getting excited now
Onward and upwards (slowly  )
