osnabruk for me, 'beer first tents later' getting lost again and again, the beer, the bikes, coming out of the bar at 5am in daylight after the german barmaid said no more, that shower that exposed you to the passing trains! lol!! riding doown the german backroads at 120mph in my shorts and flip flops just to dry them out. having amazing conversations with germans about kats and life in general. oh, and winning a trophy for the rattiest kat in europe. still on my shelf is that one! and of course, katanaoil. the run to hull and ferry trip, good friends, riding back with ian (rip) and connor. the dye running from my leathers and giving me maouri tattoos! the floods on the autobahn, extreme filtering, the incalcuable odds of being lost near the site, spotting a german katana and thinking he could lead us there, till he pulled into a petrol station. he hadnt heard of the rally, wasnt going, he just happened to be a kat owner out on a run! so much fun that time.

I’ve been to a few but for overall experience Switzerland was my favourite. I really enjoyed the ride down, stopping in some places I’d never been to before, Metz for example and it’s fantastic cathedral. Being woken up by the cow bells on the Alpine cattle, the stunning scenery and slightly terrifying cable car ride! possibly because it was my first big tour outside the UK with people I consider good friends, made it special. Although I’ve had bikes since I was 17 , until I joined the Kat club I never had any biking mates to ride with. Gutted that I couldn’t do France this year, hopefully next time!

when we were camping in france in the 1990's i once made a 50 mile round trip to buy a bottle of fresh milk so the kids could have milk on their cornflakes the next day!
and speaking of authentic local produce. im not a lager drinker, it just doesnt taste right. BUT kronemburg 1664 drunk ice cold in france is a completely different drink to the bland watery piss we get in the uk. its a genuinely completely different thing. and i dont think its because im on holiday away from work and the uk. its just better.

You are quite correct sir. Most of the so called. Lager is brewed under licence here in Manchester by the B.W P.company, (bland watery etc)
and that is why all the drinks, including Guinness always taste better in their own back yard. On the other hand, johnny foreigner can't see to brew real ale like we do.... just sayin'.

Guinness was brewed in London at Park Royal Brewery until 2005. Now all European Guinness is brewed at St James's Gate Brewery in Dublin. So stock up now......

in the 1970's some custom and excise ruling meant it worked out cheaper to export in bulk, so guinness was brewed in dublin, and brought to the uk in big tanker lorrys to preston docks when we had a dock in the town, it then went to a bottling plant called batemans where it was bottled up for domestic consumption. on a shelf in my kitchen i have the two last bottles off the production lines in 1975 and 1976, labeled up as such with dates and details. still full and unopened!not sure id fancy opening them now tho!
