Re: Popup carbs
Used this to clean Fred61’s Pop Up carbs earlier this year.
Think it’s a 2500ml version. Got it from Maplin’s a few years ago.

Re: Popup carbs
Good purchase, now get some good additive! Take your pick but take the time to read. Some additives react with alloys

It's faster to break than to repair.

Re: Popup carbs
After trying various cleaners some fairly expensive, after a post by Kryten regarding this, I went back to using just washing up liquid and PaulD pitched in with also adding a squirt of lemon juice (not sure if it makes a different but there's some in the fridge and it's a long time to pancake day so why not
)
I don't tend to use the supplied plastic tray (can see that in Kryten's one above) as it does state this can reduce the cleaning, I just throw everything in and fish out with my hands! I do use a rubber bung in the drain hole at the bottom so nothing goes down there.
Here's a PC50 carb i recently did with just those, before and after - mine does have a heater and I think it was at about 45C. I haven't found anything that makes them shiny or as good on the outside as vapour blasting, but I'm happy with that.
All the jets were fine as well, I do a full stripdown and once done a quick blast with some brake cleaner (see below) then blow out with the airline.
Another thing I have found as a pre-clean if there is residue fuel / gum / varnish) in the carb etc is CRC Gasket Remover (had some for actual gasket removal but gave it a try and it worked well

the CRC Brake Clean Pro is really good as well, supplier is not to far from me so I normally pickup in bulk for me and friends

Re: Popup carbs
After another thorough clean and ultrasonic bath.. still the same problem.
And then, as if by magic, ibrakeformoose lists a popup for breaking
A few weeks time and I’ll have a whole other set of carbs to play with....

Re: Popup carbs
To make the outside of the carbs look good use machine mart aluminium cleaner.

Re: Popup carbs
Apologies for hijacking this thread, but where do you folk get carb rebuild gasket and O ring kits from in the UK?
I have taken the carbs off my 1,000 because it runs horribly on tick over and at low speeds. I have found someone locally who can ultrasonically clean them, but he suggested getting a rebuild kit before he starts so that they are not lying around in bits for ages waiting for parts.
I have had a look at NRP carbs, but they don't do much. Do I have to order everything, part by part, from Suzuki dealer? Or are there other options?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks, David.

Nothing screams poor workmanship quite like wrinkles in your duct tape.
