First post.....What do you think?
Hi people. My names Carl and I've always wanted a big Kat ever since they came out. As it happens my neighbour has this 1000 doing nothing. It was running about 3 years ago. I'm thinking of buying it and getting it back to it's original condition, except the exhaust maybe. He says he's got all the panels to it. the worst bit is the back seat tail light have been changed/cut down. I'm not hoping to find anything second hand, if I buy it probably end up buying new from the place in the Netherlands. My big question is .....what's it worth? What would be a fair price to pay? and I can't pull a fast one as he knows his bikes and he is my neighbour
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Re: First post.....What do you think?
Thanks for the reply. He says it's worth £3000-£3500 if it was road worthy etc. I thought I would offer £1000 and maybe work up to £1500. My worst nightmare is to buy it then realise it engine is bo***xt and if it is what would be the price to refurbish it

Hi there tarmacscratcher!
Now this will be a totally biased opinion by me! But as the bike is in its present condition......I would Not pay more than £1000-£1200 for the bike in that condition...even less if it is not running!
It would only be worth £3000-£3500 if it were standard condition and not messed with and missing bits and with a potentially shagged motor or one needing major work!
And obviously more if it were in very good condition!

Tell the seller he's living in a dream world!

Not an expert like Bobster or most people on here, but looking at the pics i would say no more than £1500. Been standing a while and is going to need a lot of work and parts by the look of things. Although the bike is all there all those little things that you will need to buy/fix all add up. If you look at the prices of "finished" bikes you would be looking at £3000 - but they are on the road/taxed/mot'd and need little or no work.
Save yourself some money and buy from someone on here. Johnr has a cracking kat400 up for grabs for sensible money.
Good luck.
Pete

In my opinion this needs so much work to put it back to standard ...... i'd beat him down on the price big time or its not worth doing unless you have bottomless pockets. The money you would spend on it would mean it would have to be a keeper or you wont even get your money back.
To think i sold my bog standard thou 10 years ago for £2,500 !!!!

Re: First post.....What do you think?
Many thanks guys for all your input. I'll keep you posted on what's happening. Haven't spoke to him about selling it for a few days......don't want to appear too keen...know what I mean.
I need to make sure he has all the rest of the bits too it and if he has any paper history too. I know he's known the bike for a long time. The expensive bit is the seat/tail light
......mega money from CMSNL...but I've dealt with them before.

You can still buy the tail piece new from Suzuki and they're £130 ish..And we did have a seat at the CMM show last October, and may still have it for sale!
If you do buy the bike, this is the place to help find and saurce parts.........even better if you become a Proper member of the KOC! £11 per year!
Slowly slowly catchee monkey!
And the katana 1000sz are definately the Best of All the katana range!
