What have I got?

Post by jerry » Mon Aug 15, 2011 6:35 pm

This might go on a bit but I'm after a bit of expertise!!!!
Last November I purchased a UK GSX 1000 SZ, I love the bike and have had some brilliant rides.
Recently I have been wondering exactly what I've got :?
The log book states first registered in UK on 01 08 1982, 997cc, Frame No 50003* and Engine No 10038*. Silver, no side fairing reflectors and grey and blue seat with no seat grab strap, with my limited knowledge this all seems right.

My main question is around the carbs which definately are not slide carbs. The carb reference number is 45500, with what looks like B1 underneath, which does not correspond to any of the Indentity no's stated for 1100 or 1000 UK or US. (they all seem to start with 49***)

I'm hoping someone might tell me how daft I am and that not all 1000's have slide carbs :)

I'd appreciate any thoughts :)

Sorry got reference wrong, now ammended...it should be SZ which I think means they should be slide. the 45 reference certainly makes sense as they look like CV's.
thanks

If your bike was first registered in thr UK .........then it should have slide carbs fitted.

Someones obviously changed them for some CV carbs in its past.

The frame number is low an even earlier than mine !

Theres a few peeps on here with slide carbs in their collections..........................but getting them to part with them is a totally different matter!
They normally go for £250 and upwards.............thats if you can find a set for sale!

happy hunting!

Thanks Bobster. It's good you've confirmed what we were thinking. I was starting to wonder if I'd bought a mismatch of bits even though the numbers all seem to make sense on the V5. I'll keep my eyes and ears open....you never know :D
