Not so much clutching at straws Chris, just going by what others have said
That fuggly bike has both a frame AND frame number and retains some of the bodywork...
still prefer to look at that then some fences tho' with or without butts in place

Your not going to get a V5 document that says Katana without a Kat frame or headstock at least, if you have the headstock and frame number it still has to be a Kat on the paperwork. . . . . . Hmmmmm cheap xn85 for sale as its no longer a kat !

Obviously you're right about the V5 Russ, I guess the discussion comes down to the point of view we take over kat-like bikes.
Personally, if a machine started life as a kat then it's a kat even if it's got a gixxer lump in it with upside down forks etc. There's plenty of specials out there where the only remaining kat parts are the frame and the bodywork, (I own one myself!!!) A strengthened kat frame is still a kat frame. BUT a one-off frame that claims a V5 purely because its got a legally stamped kat headstock welded in is NOT a kat.
However this brings us to the grey area that is 'inspired by' bikes and here I agree with Pedda in that we need to broaden our view point. Obviously we've done so with the XN's and bikes like Taff's etc. So.....clear as mud as usual

Ahh but it started life as a Kat he's just built a different bike around it, this to me is essentially more a Kat then any gixer wearing Kat bodywork or indeed GSX14's as they never at any point started out as a Kat!!
So basically if I take my registered Kat and cut the frame about & weld in new sections and then add a different engine and modify my bodywork, (which is pretty much what this bike is), then my regsitered Kat will suddenly stop being a Kat???Seems we had a the same kind of "discussion" with Marks 1000 that wasn't as the frame was from a 750!! Talk about keep moving the goalposts
So.....clear as mud as usual :*vegi-sausages*: :*vegi-sausages*:

call me sad but i like that bike.... it's got a purpose in life and as long as it's on a dragstrip getting it's neck wrung and blowing away other bikes then all is good
its got a kat headstock, fairing, tank and what used to be the side panels and a load of go! so why not.... it's gotta be fun in a straight line you have to admit

This topic could run and run......
Jez I see what you're saying, same thing different end view. I guess you're right, but my meaning was that the frame retains the kat dimensions just with strengthening struts/braces rather than a bespoke frame built to house something completely different. But as I say, I see your point.
Right that's me done on this one.
